History of the Clinic

Dr. C. Srinivasan, M. D., D. A. –  Dr. Madhavan’s father – retired as professor and head of the department of anaesthesiology, Kilpauk Medical College, Madras.  He started a small clinic at Jubilee Road, West Mambalam, in 1963 and shifted to the present premises in July 1970, where his wife Dr. M. K. Jayalakshmi, M. B. B. S., joined his medical practice.  Dr. Srinivasan had a busy A. M. A. (Authorized Medical Attendant) practice, until the abolition of the A.M.A. scheme by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Dr. M. K. Jayalakshmi, mother of Dr. C. Madhavan, by dint of her hard work, built up a large and loyal clientele, whom she continued to service, on a daily basis and for a nominal fee, until 2001. Subsequently, a combination of family commitments, age, and ill health forced her to prune down her professional commitments – and she continued to work three afternoons a week, right until 2011.

This state-of-the art eye clinic, named after the latter, will strive to live up to the quality of patient care that Dr. Jayalakshmi consistently delivered to her patients over the course of her years in practice, and diligently reflect the lofty ethical principles that underlined her approach to patient care.
