Laser Treatment
Yag Laser procedures:
Besides refractive surgeries, which are cosmetic procedures and utilize the excimer laser, there are other types of laser procedures performed in the human eye, some of which are potentially vision restoring. Dr. Madhavan has worked extensively with the Nd:Yag laser in large numbers of patients, and has taught Nd:Yag laser procedures to ophthalmology residents. These procedures include:
a) Yag Capsulotomy
b) Yag laser-aided pupillary sphincterotomies
c) Yag membranectomies
d) Yag anterior hyaloidolysis
e) Yag vitreolysis
f) Yag peripheral iridotomies
Retinal Laser Photocoagulation:
The argon /frequency double yag laser are used to photocoagulate the retina in certain diseases involving the posterior segment of the eye, like proliferative diabetic retinopathy, diabetic maculopathy, neovascular glaucoma secondary to central retinal vein occlusion, central serous chorioretinopathy etc. Dr. Madhavan is trained to perform the following retinal laser procedures (click to see the section on “Specialized Trainings”):
a) Pan retinal photocoagulation (PRP)
b) Sectoral photocoagulation (Sector PHC)
c) Focal laser photocoagulation
He is also trained in administering intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF agents, to reduce macular edema secondary to diabetic maculopathy or central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).
